Night Light - Vibraphone Solo by Benjamin Holmes
Night Light - Vibraphone Solo by Benjamin Holmes
"Night Light" is a vibraphone solo that intricately mimics the rhythmic intricacies of guitar strumming patterns. Rhythmic pulsations intertwine between the right and left hands to create a rich tapestry of sound. The performer must navigate unique mallet placements to accommodate intertwining melodic lines.
Performance notes:
The top staff (beginning in measure two) is played by the right hand. The bottom staff (beginning in measure two) is plated by the left hand. At times, the performer may need to alter the mallet’s striking position on the bars to play overlapping voicings.
There are several melodic embellishments that are to be played by both hands at the performer's discretion, although notated within one staff. These occur in measures 1, 13, 17, 37, 41, 42, 46, 49, 56, 78, 82, 88, 93, and 104.
Unless indicated by separate dynamic markings, dynamics written in the middle on the two staffs apply to both staffs.
Tenuto markings are meant to indicate that the note should be slightly louder than a non-accented note, but not as loud as an accented note.
